These guides cover everything you need to know about using a hardware wallet — from unboxing your first device to daily transaction workflows. Each guide is based on hands-on testing, not manufacturer documentation.

We cover the full lifecycle: choosing the right device for your needs, initial setup and configuration, sending and receiving transactions, firmware updates, and long-term device maintenance. Where instructions differ between brands, we provide specific steps for each major manufacturer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Hardware Wallets and hardware wallet security

Are hardware wallets worth the investment?
For most crypto holders, yes. A hardware wallet costs $50-$300 once and protects your assets indefinitely. Compare that to keeping funds on an exchange (hacks, freezes, insolvency) or a software wallet (malware, phishing). If you hold more crypto than the wallet costs, the math is straightforward.
Which hardware wallet should I buy as a beginner?
Look for ease of setup, a good companion app, and strong security fundamentals (secure element chip, open-source firmware). Trezor Safe 3 and Ledger Nano S Plus are popular entry points under $100. Always order directly from the manufacturer to prevent supply chain attacks.
Can I store NFTs on a hardware wallet?
Yes. Most modern hardware wallets support NFTs on Ethereum, Polygon, Solana, and other networks. Your NFTs are stored on the blockchain — the hardware wallet holds the private key that proves ownership. Manage NFTs through companion apps or compatible platforms like MetaMask connected to your hardware wallet.
What happens if my hardware wallet manufacturer goes bankrupt?
Your crypto is safe. The seed phrase follows the BIP-39 standard, an open protocol supported by virtually every wallet. If the manufacturer disappears, restore your funds on any compatible wallet using your seed phrase. This is why the seed phrase backup is critical, not the device itself.
